Description

1 tuber approx. 3–8 mm, repotted in Akadama soil, delivered planted in an unglazed brown stoneware orchid pot, approx. 10 cm in diameter.
A terrestrial orchid of Japanese origin, producing white, lightly fragrant clustered blooms in summer.

A hardy perennial with a fleshy rhizome, best grown in a pot.

The foliage disappears in autumn and winter. Easy to grow in a cold greenhouse during winter with limited watering (dormancy period).

Narrow leaves emerge in April, followed by flowering at the beginning of summer, lasting 2 to 4 weeks.

Flowering stems reach 25–30 cm in height. Fertilize after flowering and until late autumn. Be cautious when repotting: the tuber is extremely small and easily mistaken for soil.

According to legend, during a time of conflict, a young woman from Setagaya Castle (Tokyo) sent a letter to help her beloved in the war, entrusting it to a white heron. The heron was shot down, but where it fell, this beautiful flower began to grow. Today, this orchid is the symbolic flower of the Setagaya ward hall. These orchids are imported from Japan with a C.I.T.E.S. permit and are produced through in-vitro culture.

This ensures plants that are virus-free, vigorous, and floriferous. Blooming occurs in July. From late August to early September, the foliage begins to yellow as the plant prepares for winter. Suggested display: planting groups of dozens of bulbs over the years.
