Advice - Pruning
Structural pruning
Structural pruning should be done in late winter or very early spring, just before the buds form. It involves encouraging growth of thin branches and gradually removing any defects over the years. It is essential to dress all pruning wounds and pruning knife scars on the trunks and branches.
You can quickly establish highly decorative hedges by planting young
palmatum or buergerianum plants every 80 centimetres. Their fast growth
and splendid autumn colours are well worth the effort.
